How to get Noticed on LinkedIn in a Pool of 830 Million?
LinkedIn is the worlds largest professional networking site. As of April 2022 LinkedIn has over 830 million users in more than 200 countries and territories across the globe. 12.7 Million of those users are right here in Australia! So what can you do to get noticed?
1. Update your profile
Successful businesses invest a lot of time on building their brand. Like a business you too should spend some time on your own personal brand. Ensure your profile picture is up to date, sticking to clear headshots without distracting backgrounds and wearing attire appropriate for your industry (ie. a fitness professional could wear gym clothes whereas a corporate lawyer might be more inclined to wear office attire). Don’t be tempted by filters and photo editing. Do you know you get on average 21 x more views if you have a profile picture.
Ensure your employment history, education and skills are all up to date. Job promotions and completion of education are all achievements you should pop on you profile, after all you worked hard for these!
2. Network
Technology has made it easier to network than ever before and it is such a powerful tool. Friends, classmates and family can be a good start when building your network, however, we also recommend building connections with people you have engaged with throughout your career as well as likeminded people within your industry.
We love networking as it helps people connect with professionals who experts in their field, celebrate achievements and keep you up to date with new technology/insights. This opens you up to greater job opportunities, knowledge and support.
3. Engage in conversations
You don’t have to be writing thought provoking blogs or articles to participate on LinkedIn.
Just like going into a physical business it is also important to connect online, as a lot of time is spent in building the branding of an online presence.
Don’t forget to support people by following their business page, write a recommendation for someone who provided you an excellent service, ‘like’ achievements or posts and comment/share their articles that resonate with you.
Whether you are an individual or a business looking to increase brand recognition, it doesn’t have to be hard . Just follow these three points consistently, be engaged, remain professional, stay true to your brand and you will be surprised how much more you will be noticed.
